Super Bowl is in a week, are you game day ready? Make sure your party is the best yet by serving Cheesy Chili Dog Dip. It's just what it sounds like. Two favourites, chili dogs and cheese, all baked into a delicious dip and then topped with onions and fresh tomatoes for an unbeatable win! Not a sports fan, no problem, this snack is universally loved!

So, us bloggers (it’s so weird to call myself that because I still feel like such a newbie, even after a year) will plan recipes based on upcoming events, holidays, etc. So, with the Super Bowl right around the corner, it feels totally appropriate to introduce you to this party-worthy Cheesy Chili Dog Dip. It’s exactly what it sounds like and oh so good!

Brainstorming Super Bowl appetizer ideas, my husband and I came up with a few fun ones, but the main theme revolved around chili. Is it just me or does it seem like chili and the Super Bowl go hand in hand? I decided to create a homemade version of hot dog chili, It’s always one of my husband’s favourites when we pick up fast food, so having a homemade version in my arsenal wasn’t a bad idea. Chili was going to be a major component of this appetizer, but I also wanted a dip, so I mixed the two together and voila, Cheesy Chili Dog Dip.

I have to let you in on a little secret of mine. I’m one of those super annoying customers who will order a cheeseburger and then change it completely. Or I’ll add an extra ingredient or ask for extra caramel in my frappucino. When I lived in Fort Frances, my favourite quick fix was a cheeseburger (extra pickles, lettuce and tomatoes) and loaded chili fries from Dairy Queen. These fries are delicious. but I always asked for tomatoes on top. It’s the only way to eat these, trust me!

So, obviously I am adding tomatoes to this dip, they add the perfect brightness, that I feel is needed with all that rich chili! I also knew I wanted to add some cheese. Is a dip really a dip without cheese? I figured out the chili sauce but then it dawned on me, why wouldn’t I just add the hot dogs right into the dip. Of course, a bit more onion and you’ve got yourself a truly fun and tasty game-day snack! Keep reading to find out how you can make this easy appetizer for you spread next week!

How to make Cheesy Chili Dog Dip

This dip is super easy to make. Start by making the chili sauce. Fry the ground beef and onions until cooked through. Add in the spices and tomato sauce and then let this simmer for an hour. SO easy!

While that’s simmering away, cook the bacon until crispy. Drain off any excess grease and crumble it. Finely dice an onion, if you didn’t already cut up extra when you made the chili sauce. And then dice the tomatoes and slice the hot dogs. After the chili sauce has simmered, mix in the hot dogs and layer that on the bottom of a casserole dish and topped it with the shredded cheese.

Bake until the dip is bubbly and the cheese is melted. Top it with the crumbled bacon, fresh onions and tomatoes. Serve it with taco chips or corn chips. Personally, I love the corn chips, it just adds an extra salty bite, but it’s always nice to have a variety!

I love this dip. So much, in fact, I have about 14 photos of cheese pulls. While I was photographing this recipe, I would take a picture and then obviously eat that dipped corn chip, then decide I needed another and another and that resulted in over a dozen of the same photo, but I enjoyed the “set-up” for each shot immensely! Now, I know I’ve suggested this for Super Bowl, but in all honestly this dip universal. You can serve it at any party, it’s not just for game-day!
