Finding two-ingredient recipes can get a little tricky. I can go the easy route and give you dips and simple fudges, but eventually, we’d both get tired of that. I want new ideas, things I haven’t tried, things that intrigue me. You’re with me, right? So, I spend a lot of time searching for ideas. This week’s recipe started out as sausage rolls but then took a hard left turn and became Easy Cinnamon Sugar Cronuts.
You see, the sausage rolls were good, but not great. And I want you to have recipes that you’ll love as much as I do. So, back to the drawing board. I had leftover puff pastry, so that had to be one of the ingredients. I searched and searched and then it dawned on me maybe this doesn’t even need a second ingredient? So, I googled fried puff pastry and there they were easy cronuts!
Before even taking a bite, I knew this was going to be good. How could it not be? I wanted to pack a bit of extra flavour into these, so that’s where the cinnamon sugar came in. And how convenient that McCormick makes a Cinnamon Sugar spice that I can count as one ingredient! And you guys these cronuts deliver. So light with that deep-fried crunch we all recognize. A yummy dessert or snack that everyone will love!
HOW TO MAKE Easy CINNAMON Sugar Cronuts
INGREDIENTS
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (this will make about eight cronuts)
- cinnamon sugar for dusting
You’ll also need water to glue the rounds together and oil for frying.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Heat about two inches of oil in a medium pot.
- Roll out the puff pastry a bit larger using a rolling pin. Cut out circles about 2-2.5″ in diameter. You’ll end up with about 16 circles.
- Rub a bit of water over the top of one of the puff pastry circles and top with a second circle of pastry. Do this with all the circles. You will end up with eight cronuts. Next, cut a hole out of the middle of each cronut using an apple corer, or something similar.
- Once the oil is ready, gently drop in a cronut and let it cook for about five minutes or until golden brown and puffed up. Flip the cronut several times while it’s cooking. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Roll hot cronut in the cinnamon sugar spice.
- Repeat for all eight cronuts.
So airy and light, these Easy Cinnamon Sugar Cronuts will become your family’s most requested dessert. My son’s been asking for more “donuts” all day long. I could’ve made the extra sheet that was in the package of puff pastry, but that seemed like a dangerous plan. These tasty treats are addictive!
