These melt in your mouth chocolate chip cookies are my favourites for multiple reasons. Not only are they exactly what a chocolate chip cookie should be, but they are the first cookies my son, Ben and I made together. They are the first anything we made together to be exact. Really, what cookie could evoke more nostalgia than a sweet little chocolate chip cookie? I bet we all have a story about these, amiright?

The Cookies

Let’s talk for a minute about the cookies themselves. I believe everyone should have a chocolate chip cookie recipe tucked in their back pocket. A recipe so good, it ends the search for any other version. This is mine. This is my go-to recipe for chocolate chip cookies. It never disappoints and I haven’t looked for another version since I came across this one.

The recipe itself is my cousin Rachelle’s or maybe my aunts, either way, I am indebted to her. It’s perfect. The cookies are chewy and just barely crisp along the edges. While the centers are gooey and melt in your mouth.

Frankly, it’s everything you want a chocolate chip cookie to be. You can taste the little hint of salt, making it impossible to stop at just one cookie. Honestly, stopping at one cookie has never been a problem for me. In fact, I’m pretty sure I never have, five or six is the number I aim for.

The Memories

Now on to the nostalgic part of this cookie for me. This is the first recipe Ben and I made together. He was just over a year and a half and I can already see the foundation our time in the kitchen is starting to build. He helped stir, scoop and taste.

I loved every minute of that messy afternoon. Watching his little hands grip the scoop and catching him sneaking mouthfuls of dough will be forever imprinted in my mind. The wonder in his eyes as he watched the cookies rise through the oven window, still warms my heart.

This recipe is a great starter for baking with your kids. Ben loved dumping in the flour and watching the mixer stir all the ingredients together. He tried his best to mix in the chocolate chips but really preferred scooping, wait scratch that, tasting the dough. Ben loves being in the kitchen, he even calls himself a baker man, I credit these cookies with his start in the kitchen.

How to make Melt in Your Mouth Chocolate Chip Cookies

These are so easy, start by beating together the butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla until the dough is light and fluffy. Then sift in the flour, salt and baking soda. Drop by tablespoonfuls and bake for about 9 minutes or until lightly golden. I store the extras in the freezer.

Seriously, try this one the next time you’re in the mood for chocolate chip cookies. Bake it with someone special and create a little nostalgia for yourself with your new favourite chocolate chip cookie! Or wait until everyone is out of the house so you don’t have to share, both are totally acceptable. No judgement here!
