INGREDIENTS

Chili Sauce

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup onions, finely diced
  • 15 oz can tomato sauce (I used Hunt's)
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Cheesy Chili Dog Dip

  • chili sauce (recipe above)
  • 2 cups Mexican blend shredded cheese
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely diced
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 3 slices bacon, crumbled
  • 4 all-beef hot dogs, sliced

INSTRUCTIONS

Chili Sauce

  1. In a dutch oven, over medium heat, fry ground beef until the pink is gone, add in onions and continue to fry until the ground beef is cooked through and onions are soft. Stir in spices and let cook for a few minutes. Then add tomato sauce and stir to combine. Reduce heat, cover and let simmer for an hour, stirring occasionally.

Cheesy Chili Dog Dip

  1. While the chili sauce is simmering, finely dice the onions, chop the tomatoes and slice the hot dogs into 1/4 inch rounds.

  2. When the chili sauce is finished simmering, stir in the hot dogs and then scoop it into an 8 x 8 casserole dish. Top this with shredded cheese and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until the dip is bubbly and cheese is melted.

  3. Remove from oven and top with crumbled bacon, tomatoes and onions. Serve immediately.
