Oh, let summer reign! And let the crown be these Boozy Cream Soda Floats. It is the perfect time to roll out the mason jars and make ice cream floats. They’re the best dessert drink on a hot summer day and with the addition of alcohol, this boozy version will be a hit with adults. With the heat and humidity in full swing here in Georgia, I can’t think of a better way to end the day than with this kicked up ice cream float.

Growing up, ice cream was king in our house. We’d get off the lake after a weekend at the cabin and we’d head for an ice cream cone, almost every Sunday. My parent’s freezer always has multiple tubs of ice cream. Let’s just say, there’s a flavour for everyone. Furthermore, if you bring my Grandma a strawberry sundae, you’ll be her favourite person, for the rest of the day, guaranteed! And on road trips, we decide which towns to stop in, for breaks, based on which one has a Dairy Queen.

Ice cream has always been a favourite for me. I guess it was bound to happen, seeing as not one person in my family would ever turn down the cold treat. I try to end almost every day with some sort of ice cream dessert. Even while on a diet, I’ll check MyFitnessPal and do the quick calculations. Figure out what I need to cut, in order to fill my daily ice cream quota or I’ll just throw caution to the wind and dig in regardless of calories. True story! Are you a dessert person? I’m not sure I count ice cream as dessert. I mean it is, obviously, but it’s so easy, does it really count?

Floats have always been a favourite. The fizz from the pop and the rich creaminess from the ice cream combine to make the most delicious dessert drink ever! Frankly, this boozy version just makes me happy to be an adult. I’m actually not much of a drinker, but this drink is good. So good, in fact, I’ve had one every night for the last three nights.

How to make Boozy Cream Soda Floats

Here’s how I make boozy floats. I like to get everything nice and cold to begin with. First, put the glasses in the freezer, a couple of hours before you want to make these. However, you could always keep a couple of glasses in the freezer, for unexpected Boozy Cream Soda Float cravings, just saying! I put the bottle of pop in the freezer, for about 20 minutes, before making the floats, but DO NOT forget the pop bottle in there, or you’ll curse me for the mess.

Fill the glass half full with soda, gently drop in a couple of ice cream scoops and then add a shot of spiced rum. Lastly, if you want, you can finish these off with a bit of whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce.

Summer really wouldn’t be the same without a cold, creamy ice cream float. And since this adult version gives me all the heart eyes, I suggest starting your season with these. So, kick your feet up and relax with this boozy float. It’s the perfect way to cap off a hot summer day!

Course Drinks
Cuisine American
Keyword alcoholic drinks, Ice Cream Float, rum
Prep Time 5 minutes
Servings 1 drink

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/4 cup A&W cream soda (must be A&W)
  • 2-3 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 1 shot spice rum, I used Captain Morgan's Black Spiced Rum
  • whipped cream, if desired
  • caramel sauce, if desired

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. I like to get everything super cold before I begin, but this step is not necessary. If you want, freeze your glasses a few hours before making these. Also freeze the pop (in the bottle) for about 20-30 minutes. DO NOT forget the bottle in the freezer.

  2. Start by filling your glass of choice, I recommend a mason jar, half full with the cream soda. This may be more or less than 1 1/4 cup depending on the size of your glass. 1/2 full is a good eyeball measure, here.

  3. Slowly, drop in 2-3 scoops of ice cream. Again depending on the size of your glass

  4. Top with one shot of spiced rum. Give it a quick stir with a straw and serve immediately.

  5. Finish with whipped cream and caramel sauce, if desired.
