Easy DIY Wall-Mounted Paper Roller
I have wanted one of these giant paper rollers, ever since I saw them years ago. It wasn’t until recently, that I had the space and the time to really give this project legs. I had seen a few versions online, but they were much too expensive for my taste. Then I came across this post on A Little Bit O.C.D. and was completely sold. Minutes later, I called my husband and asked him to swing by Ikea on his way home. I had been putting this off because of time and money, but with this Ikea hack neither was a problem anymore and I made myself an Easy DIY Wall-Mounted Paper Roller.
I’m a big list maker, so this is right up my alley. What will I use it for, you ask? Great question. I see grocery lists, birthdays by the month, calendars, menus, notes and art projects, the possibilities are endless. Currently, I’m using it as a countdown calendar for my weight loss challenge, I joined last week. After that, I love the idea of making a list of fun activities for the summer months. Things our family would like to do and write them down with a small box beside each so we can check them off as they happen. We’ve also used it as a welcome when we’ve had visitors come and stay.
And frankly, having extra giant rolls of paper hanging around is never a bad idea with little ones around. I can rip off a couple of big sheets to cover our table. We can use it for an impromptu roadway for my son’s trucks. Just draw on a few roads, like this. Or use the paper to trace the kids and let them colour their life-size bodies.
How to make an Easy DIY Wall-Mounted Paper Roller
SUPPLIES
- 2 Ikea Betydlig wall/ceiling bracket in black
- 1 Ikea Racka curtain rod, black (28″ – 47″)
- 1 Ikea Raffig pair of finials, black
- wall anchors, if needed
- screws
- 18″ kraft paper like this from Lowes
- stud finder
- power screwdriver
INSTRUCTIONS
- Firstly, you’ll want to decide where you want to hang your Paper Roller. Using a stud finder, locate two studs to screw into, if you can’t find a stud, you’ll want to use wall anchors.
- If you need to use wall anchors, insert them and then attach the curtain brackets using the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Once you have those setup, just thread the curtain rod through the kraft paper roll and hang this on the brackets. Add the finials so it doesn’t slide off.
- Adjust the width and depth to your liking.
With little time and money, this DIY project comes together nicely. There are endless uses for this craft and it’s a nice addition to any decor. It’s sort of the perfect roller. With these curtain brackets, you can move it closer to the wall, or further out depending on the size of your paper roll. A customizable hack, can’t get much better than that!
