Fingerprint Christmas Tree Wall-Hanging
My son loves all things arts and crafts, but really what kid doesn’t? And Christmas is the perfect time to pull out the art supplies and really let our imaginations run wild. This super cute Fingerprint Christmas Tree Wall-Hanging came together in a matter of minutes. And it is also a perfect decoration for your youngster to gift to those special relatives that love a homemade gift.
I’m not sure exactly where this idea came from, but if I remember correctly, it was inspired by a walk through Hobby Lobby. Is Hobby Lobby your muse, too? We made these for both the grandmas last year, but being fairly new to blogging I didn’t take enough photos, who knew so much work went into these posts? So, all that meant was that the boys got to help make another one this year.
It’s a very easy craft to make, just stain the wood the day before you want to paint. Get your supplies ready and go for it! You really can’t mess up this simple craft. I like to freehand the trunk and star. Don’t worry about perfection when it comes to crafts. I love the imperfect, it’s rustic, charming and one of a kind!
HOW TO MAKE A Fingerprint Christmas Tree Wall-Hanging
SUPPLIES
- a piece of pine roughly 5 x 12″ and about 1/4″ in thickness
- stain (I used Minwax special walnut)
- rags
- acrylic paint
- paintbrushes
- staples + staple gun
- jute rope or something similar
- painter’s tape
INSTRUCTIONS
- Stain your board first using the rag and then let this dry. This really is the longest process. I left mine to dry overnight.
- Then, tape off a tall triangle shape using the painter’s tape. Leave space for the star at the top and the trunk at the bottom. Additionally, I add extra tape to the edges to make sure my son is only painting the inside of the tree shape.
- Put a bit of each paint in small containers or on a paper plate, your choice here. I used two different greens for the tree, some yellow for the star, brown for the trunk and of course white for the snowflakes.
- Once you’re ready, start by helping your child, if they’re still a little young, by dipping his or her finger into the paint and then pressing it onto the wood. Lift his or her hand up and repeat until the triangle is filled with fingerprints.
- When you’re happy with your tree, let it dry and then pull the tape off.
- Using a small paintbrush, paint on the star, and tree trunk and let them dry.
- Finish by attaching the rope by stapling it to the back of the board.
This was such a fun Christmas craft and it’s so cute hung up on a wall or even over a doorknob. We had a good time creating this keepsake and it was so easy. We had everything on hand and this came together in a flash. Perfect for those first Christmas gifts for the grandparents. This one is a must for new moms or those who like simple crafts that scream holiday!
