Orange Citrus Lemonade Punch
The first time I ever heard about Betty’s punch was while planning my best friend’s baby shower. When we asked if there was anything, in particular, she would like served at the celebration, she asked for Hot Cheesy Spinach Dip and Betty’s Punch. After one sip, I knew exactly why this Orange Citrus Lemonade Punch was right at the top of her list.
She and I have shared many glasses of this punch, we tend to spike it with gin. I’ve also served this at a party or two, and quite a few family gatherings both with and without alcohol. Even this past week, I’ve made it twice, just to have on hand. It’s so refreshing with just a hint of cherry flavour. It’s a winner. Pretty much the only punch I ever make.
Betty’s recipe is a little easier than the one I’m about to share with you, but that’s only because I can’t source Five Alive out here! So, if you’re in Canada and can get your hands on a can of frozen Five Alive, just use that. For the rest of us, we get to add some freshly squeezed citrus juices. On top of that, we mix in pink lemonade and both vanilla and almond extract and then serve it with a splash of ginger ale. Guys, it’s so so good!
How to make Orange Citrus Lemonade Punch
This punch is such a simple recipe, even with the extra juicing. Five Alive is a mixture of orange juice, grapefruit, lemon, lime and tangerine. So, let’s start there. I use a 100% orange juice as my base. If you can get your hand’s on a fresh-squeezed container of the good stuff from Costco or Sam’s Club this would be EVEN better! But, convenience for me means a jug of Kroger’s brand. Next squeeze in a grapefruit, a couple of lemons, limes and Mandarin oranges and stir it all together.
Add in the frozen lemonade and the required cans of water, usually four and then finish with the vanilla and the almond extract, these two are key. It’s just not the same without them. When you serve these you can either let everyone top up their own glass with ginger ale or serve it in a very large punch bowl and gently pour in a 2L bottle of pop for that extra fizz!
Now I’ve told you this is great for parties and get together. It’s equally great sipping it on a Friday after a long week, it’s the perfect companion while camping. It’s great morning, noon and night, but it’s best enjoyed in the company of best friends and loved ones! Who will you share this with?
