Cabin Tea (two-ingredients)
I’ve known my best friend’s husband for decades longer than she has. My best friend, Edith, and I grew up in the same town, so how is this possible you ask? Well, his grandparents and my grandparents had cabins on opposite sides of an island on the lake that surrounds my home town. So Matthew (my bestie’s husband) and I spent plenty of time together over the years when his family and his cousins would travel up north to visit. On one visit, his mom taught me how to make this easy Cabin Tea.
I should give you a bit of backstory. My dad, uncle and aunt spent their summers with Matthew’s mom and her siblings. And the tradition continued with their own kids. They’d all drive up and visit for a couple of weeks each summer. And I would spend time with Matthew’s cousin, Claire, but generally, we all would be together.
One summer, we had gotten into trouble, I don’t remember what had happened, but I wasn’t involved, so they were given the dirty dishes to wash as a punishment and I was asked to sit out on the deck with Matthew’s mom. While they did the dishes, we sat outside and drank the tastiest sweet tea I’d ever had. Later that day she taught me how to make it. And I’m about to teach you.

Cabin Tea is so easy and tastes so good, being in the south I always order sweet tea now, but this is still my favourite version. It reminds me of warm breezy days overlooking the lake. It’s nostalgic for me, just the best!
Now, you might still be wondering how Matthew and Edith met, well he moved up north to the city across the border from our hometown and they met a little while after, while they were working together. They fell in love and will be celebrating their fifteenth anniversary this summer!
