Game Day Bacon Hand Pies
*Photos updated December 2019.
The Super Bowl is right around the corner, literally. We live just outside of Atlanta and the city is alive. Everywhere you look it’s football, it definitely gets you into the spirit of things. This year we’ll be enjoying the big game from the comforts of our living room.
I’ve been thinking about snacks since the beginning of January. I enjoy the game, but I’m really here for the snacks. Our game day menu usually consists of this Warm Cheesy Spinach Dip (’cause it’s amazing), nachos and a few other things. This year though, these Game Day Bacon Hand Pies have made the cut and have been pushed to the top of the list by my husband.
What can I say, he’s a fan of good food. He’s sort of my barometer of how good a dish is, and let me tell you, he’s a fan of these bacon hand pies. I tested the recipe last weekend and they lasted all of about 30 seconds. Ok, maybe a day and a half. He devoured them, I helped. They’re tasty! Filled with bacon and cream cheese, they’re downright addictive.
How to make Game Day Bacon Hand Pie
I started with pre-made pie crusts. I’ll be honest here, I’ve never made pie crust from scratch. It’s on the list, but for convenience’s sake, let’s just go with the good old standby. Mix together cream cheese, sour cream and some spices, the base to any good dip, in my opinion. Add in bacon (it really does make everything better), cheese and green onions.
Cut the pie crust into circles using a 4″ biscuit cutter and scoop about a tablespoon of filling onto each circle. Rub the edge with water before folding over to help seal each hand pie. Once folded, I just pinched and sort of twisted the edges, but you could totally use a fork and crimp the edges. Brush with an egg wash and bake. I’ve made these both ways with an egg wash and without. We prefer the egg wash.
These were super easy, I actually put them together, while my husband put our boys down for a nap and our boys are pretty easy to put down. Well, my toddler is, the baby is a much tougher opponent in the sleep department, at the moment. Either way, these hand pies we’re simple and quick! My husband highly recommends these for any game day. Together, we’re sure you and your guests will enjoy these and declare them winners!

Game Day Bacon Hand Pies
The best game day appetizer according to my husband. These Game Day Bacon Hand Pies check all the boxes. Finger food. Flaky pie crust. Cream cheese and bacon mixed with spices. They’ll be a winner at your next game day.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 pckg pre-made pie crust (2 crusts)
- 8 oz. cream cheese
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 2 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 green onions, stems only
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp parsley flakes
- 1/4 tsp dill
- 1/8 tsp seasoning salt
- 1 egg
INSTRUCTIONS
-
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Place parchment on a cookie sheet and set aside.
-
Mix the cream cheese, sour cream and spices until well combined. Stir in bacon, cheese and green onions.
-
Unroll the pie crusts and cut out 16 circles using a 4″ biscuit cutter. Roll together any leftover pie crust pieces to get enough pastry to reach 15 or 16 circles.
-
Top each circle of crust with a tablespoonful of the cream cheese mixture. Dip your finger in a bit of water and rub that along the edge of the circle, to help seal the hand pies. Fold the crust over and seal the pies however you prefer. I did a pinch and fold, but crimping the edges with a fork would work just as well.
-
Place onto prepared cookie sheet and cut a small slice into each pie so steam can escape. Beat egg with 1 tbsp of water and brush onto each hand pie.
-
Bake for 20-22 minutes. Enjoy
