Taco Pizza on Naan Bread
When I was little, my Dad would make taco pizza. It was sort of his thing. He didn’t do a lot of the cooking, that was more my Mom’s domain. He loves to cook now and will experiment and take on any, and every dish, but back in the day, he handled the barbecue, fresh fish and taco pizza. Probably other things too, that I’ve since forgotten, but this pizza, however, was his jam and my inspiration for Taco Pizza on Naan Bread.
I’ve tweaked his recipe a bit. My dad would make a big sheet pan version of this pizza. I use mini naan bread, or regular naan bread, whichever I happen to have on hand. I’m all about easy meal prep right now and naan bread, not only, make amazing pizza crusts, but they’re super easy! One day, I hope to make my own doughs, bread loaves, etc, but for now, I’m happy with the store-bought versions.
My dad’s pizza was pretty simple, he’s never been a huge fan of Mexican food, so Taco Pizza was sort of his compromise for the rest of us, and it was always a hit. His pizza would consist of a medium crust, not thin but not thick, like a hand-tossed, without the hand tossing. Then sauce, either pizza or taco, ground beef, tomatoes, cheese and topped with chopped lettuce after it’s cooked. Nothing fancy, but it was always so good. And really when is combining two favourite meals ever a bad idea?
I had forgotten about this recipe, until a few weeks ago. I had been looking for a fun lunch recipe and had just made a batch of my Homemade Taco Meat. My son stood at my feet asking for pizza, for the third day in a row and there was a bag of mini naan bread sitting on the counter, in front of me. All of a sudden, I was taken back to my own childhood and knew I had to treat my cute lunch date to this pizza immediately.
My version is a little different, a little better. Sorry Dad, but I’ve got you beat in the world of Mexican pizza. This Taco Pizza on Naan Bread is everything and will likely have you making taco meat for this and saving the leftovers for tacos. It’s that good!
How to make Taco Pizza on Naan Bread
I love using naan bread for pizza crusts. They’re the perfect thickness and perfectly soft when you pull them out of the oven. I love a thick, chewy, soft crust. I’m a floppy crust gal, I can’t stand crispy crust on a pizza, it just doesn’t make sense to me. Naan bread is my easy, go-to for any quick pizza recipes and just right for these taco pizzas.
I like to use taco sauce for my base, I’ve tried it with pizza sauce too, but I just prefer taco sauce. Then add a good helping of Homemade Taco Meat and a nice layer of Mexican blend cheese. Bake until the cheese is melted and then top each pizza with as much lettuce, tomatoes and green onions as you like. Add a few slices of avocado and a bit of cilantro. A nice squeeze of lime and finish it all with a drizzle of sour cream.
OMG, I’m so excited for you to try this. I’m going to leave you here, so you can get started. When I made this a couple of weeks ago and took that first bite, it was heaven. I immediately closed my eyes and did that involuntary Mmmmm noise. I opened my eyes and spied my son’s lunch before I had even taken a second bite of my own. Lucky for me, he couldn’t finish all of his, so I took care of that for him.

RECIPE NOTES
Here’s my favourite Homemade Taco Meat recipe.
If you’re using store bought shredded cheese, I’ve found that if you spray a little olive oil cooking spray on top of the cheese, it helps the cheese melt better.
