The Best Chunky Guacamole
When I was younger, I avoided anything with avocados. I convinced myself there was zero chance I’d enjoy the green mush and that was that. I drew a line in the sand. Me on one side, avocados on the other. That was until my Aunt Linda, brought The Best Chunky Guacamole to some gathering. The gathering part doesn’t matter. What matters is I tried it and my hatred for the little green gem vanished, along with that dip!
The younger version of myself was so headstrong. Well, I’m still pretty stubborn, but I’ve evolved when it comes to food. Back then though, no one could convince me that I’d actually enjoy this. Tell me I wasn’t the only one. My younger self is going to cringe when you read this next part, but grown-ups really do know best. As an adult, who’s tried to convince younger generations about anything, this makes me giggle.
Like most people, I grew up and realized how much I had been missing out and now I’m hungry, no pun intended, to try everything. Ok, let me walk that back a bit, maybe not everything, but I do enjoy finding new dishes that I love! I’m not totally out there, but I’m not the girl that orders chicken fingers in the restaurant either, not that I’m judging. There are some really good chicken fingers out there. In fact, that’s one of the things I have on my food bucket list.
Anyways, back to mastering good foods, my aunt nailed this dip. It’s everything you could want in a party dip. Fast and easy, and flavourful with lots of chunks for different textures. It’s my favourite and I’m guessing it’ll be yours this summer too! Let’s dig in.
How to make The Best Chunky Guacamole
The Best Chunky Guacamole is one of the easiest dips you can make and it’s always a hit at any party. I’ve found through the years, cooking is so much easier if you prep your area. As in, get all your ingredients, spices, bowls, knives, cutting boards etc. before you start.
Once you’re all set up, let’s start with the avocados. Cut your avocados in chunks. To do this, I run my knife down the centre of the avocado vertically, until I hit the pit and then rotate around the bottom of the avocado until I cut completely through the skin. Twist the two halves apart and remove the pit.
Then, slice the avocado in a grid pattern, just don’t cut through the skin. Scoop out the flesh using a spoon and place into a bowl. Seed your tomatoes and cut it into chunks. While you’re at it, chop the cilantro and garlic. Mix these four together. Squeeze on the lime juice. Lastly, add the hot sauce, salt and pepper and stir everything together. Serve with taco chips. If you’re a more visual person, check out this great video on realsimple.com on how to cut an avocado.
With summer in full swing, this is the perfect bring-along to any potluck or summer bbq you’re invited to or for relaxing on a quiet Sunday afternoon before starting the work week all over again. {sigh} Since I’ve become an avocado convert, I’ve learned that pretty much everyone likes guacamole. Seriously, I wasted so many years, time to make up for a lost time!
