Wonton Crackers – Four Ways is an easy recipe that will change how you see wonton wrappers forever. A new way to dip, scoop and dunk!

These crackers or maybe instead of that, we should call them chips, they’re a sturdy crisp, perfect for dipping. Loaded with crunch and spices, done four ways. There’s an option for everyone. These are the versions that I made today: everything bagel seasoning, Greek seasoning, garlic parmesan seasoning and cinnamon sugar. But the options are endless!

Everything Bagel Seasoning

I took the easy route with this one and used a mix I already had on hand, but you could always make your own version by mixing together 1 tablespoon of each of the following: poppy seeds, dried minced garlic, sesame seeds, dried minced onion and a tsp of sea salt. They’re perfect for eating all by themselves, scooping up scrambled eggs or with cold chip dip.

Greek Seasoning

This is one of my favourites. It’s my cousin’s recipe. The first time she made it, we all stood around her kitchen island, late one night, splitting pita rounds in half to create the most delicious little pita triangles because, obviously we needed a snack after our huge family meal. It happens, what can I say. I would recommend Hot Cheesy Spinach Dip or Creamy Feta Party Dip with Bruschetta Topping with these Greek crackers. They’re the perfect cracker for either of these party dip favourites.

Garlic Parmesan Seasoning

This one is perfect for snacking all by itself. I love the combo of garlic and parmesan, it makes for the best bite, it really doesn’t need anything extra, but if you want to dunk. I’d suggest a warm dip, something like a pizza dip or warm cheese dip. These disappeared fast.

Cinnamon Sugar Seasoning

Cinnamon Sugar is nostalgic for me. My grandpa would always make my brother and me cinnamon sugar toast whenever we would sleep over or just happened to pop in. We lived on the same block. So, there was a lot of cinnamon toast in my childhood. I can still remember the glass Gerber baby food jar with the blue lid, that had probably been around since one of us grandkids were a baby. This one is perfect for Fruit Salsa.

How to make Wonton Crackers – Four Ways

Generally, I like cutting my crackers into different shapes for each of the different seasoning. Squares, rectangles, triangles and circles. It helps distinguish the different flavours and it’s fun for my kids. Speaking of kids, this is a great recipe to get the kids involved with. My son loved sprinkling on the different seasonings, but more than helping, he liked eating these. When I asked what he wanted for lunch, he said chips, that was it. No mac and cheese, no chicken nuggets (which are on repeat in this house, at the moment), just chips.

Once your wontons are cut, everything is the same for each cracker except the Greek seasoning. For the Greek crackers you mix the seasoning, along with some lemon juice right into the olive oil and then brush the mixture onto each wonton. For the other three, you brush each wonton with olive oil and then sprinkle on the seasoning right before baking.

I did find that it’s helpful with the Everything bagel seasoning if you work in half batches, then your oil doesn’t dry out, or maybe just add a little extra oil to these. So with that said, brush half the wontons squares with oil and then sprinkle on half of the seasoning and repeat. The seasoning doesn’t stick as well, if you wait until the end and then sprinkle them on. For that reason, I might even mix the seasoning right into the olive oil next time and see if that helps the seeds stick.

This is such a great addition to any dip. They’re a delicious, crispy cracker and with the seasonings it adds an extra oomph to each bite. I love serving the crackers with dips, that are obviously appropriate for their flavours. Such as, cinnamon sugar wonton crackers with sweeter dips, like fruit salsa. Greek seasoning with hummus and all things mediterranean, yes please! Not that these crackers need a dip to be a tasty treat. They’re the perfect crunch all on their own!
